In the nonhuman division of the animal kingdom, showing one's teeth usually amounts to a form of aggression. Humans, on the other hand, use it as a response to desirable stimuli, a facility for visual seduction, or simply a means to say "cheese." As an exception, villains in Filipino action movies use it to compensate for their utterly horrible "acting" skills and to show how gross to the bone they truly are, sweat, leather jacket, tight pants, mustache and all.
